VeirD, Acca and Leeds 2023.
As project assistant, "Femxle Spaces" is an interdisciplinary and intergenerational performance project by womxn from the twin cities of Dortmund and Leeds who talk about their urban lives, struggles and visions for the future. The cities share a similar history of industrial boom, decline and subsequent structural change that has shaped the lives of the womxn.
Through the narratives of interviewees, we encounter stories of feminist solidarity, present and past search movements for efficacy and self-determination in institutions, public spaces, and within family structures. The individual perspectives of the womxn provide insight into the history of the last 50 years and the present, which is far from being told.
Using theatre, dance and video, "Femxle Spaces" makes social challenges and discourses visible with a performance walk. At six stations in public spaces in Leeds (August) and Dortmund (October), "Femxle Spaces" celebrates the power, voices and efficacy of womxn who have taken their place and found their space. They have lived different stories and yet had similar experiences.
